Editorial Standards

GermanDost combines language learning with practical life-in-Germany information. Our users make real decisions based on what we publish — about exams, visas, housing, insurance, and money. We hold our content to the following standards.

Who writes the content

GermanDost is founded and operated by Muhammad Bilal. Bilal personally writes or reviews every guide, exam question batch, and news post. Where subject-matter experts (teachers, Rechtsanwälte, insurance specialists) contribute, they are named in a byline.

Language content (exam questions, grammar explanations, vocabulary example sentences) is reviewed by native speakers where possible. Urdu and Hindi translations are proofread by native speakers in Pakistan and India.

How we source information

We prioritize official primary sources in the following order:

  1. German federal government portals: Make-it-in-Germany, BAMF, Bundesregierung, German embassy pages.
  2. State and city portals (service.berlin.de, muenchen.de, frankfurt.de, etc.).
  3. Primary institutions (Goethe-Institut, telc gGmbH, DAAD, Krankenkassen, Bundesagentur für Arbeit).
  4. Published German statutes (via Gesetze-im-Internet.de or dejure.org).
  5. Reputable media (Handelsblatt, Süddeutsche Zeitung, DW, TheLocal, iamexpat).

We cite each factual claim with an external link where practical. When we cannot identify an official source we flag the claim as “community-reported” or leave it out.

Review cadence

Every guide displays a “Last updated” and “Next review” date. Our review cadence:

  • Visa, salary, and statutory rules — reviewed every 3 months, and immediately when official sources update.
  • Insurance and financial content — reviewed every 6 months.
  • City guides — reviewed every 6 months.
  • Language content (lessons, exam questions) — reviewed annually.

A “stale content” dashboard flags any guide past its Next review date so nothing falls through.

Fact-check process

Every numeric claim (salary thresholds, insurance rates, fees, processing times) must be traceable to a named source URL. We keep a central constants file so that when a figure changes it is updated in one place and propagates everywhere.

Legal content goes through a two-step check: (1) author citation of the relevant statute or official source, (2) periodic review by a Rechtsanwalt partner where applicable.

Corrections policy

If you spot an error, email corrections@germandost.com. We aim to correct factual errors within 48 hours and annotate the change on the affected page (“Correction: we previously stated X; the correct figure is Y as of Z”).

Some links (banking, insurance, remittance, tax software) are affiliate links — GermanDost may earn a commission if you sign up. We only promote services we consider trustworthy for our audience. Affiliate relationships do not change what we write; we publish criticism of affiliated products where warranted.

Sponsored posts and paid placements are explicitly labeled as “Anzeige” / “Sponsored”. We do not accept payment to change the conclusion of a guide.
