typical Berlin Anmeldung wait (2026)

2–4 weeks

↓ from 8–12 weeks in 2022

Berlin's reputation is from 2022. 2026 is better — if you know the rolling-release trick and search 'berlinweit' instead of your home Bezirk.

The 4 busiest Bürgeramt offices

  • MitteAlways slammed
  • CharlottenburgExpat density
  • NeuköllnStartup belt
  • KreuzbergCrowded
  • Tempelhof-SchönebergOften faster

Any Berlin Bürgeramt will register you regardless of your home Bezirk — Berlin's 40+ offices are all cross-functional. Use that to your advantage.

The rolling-release trick

  1. Open service.berlin.de

    1 min

Go to service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/120686/ — the official Anmeldung booking page.

  2. Select 'berlinweit' — not one Bezirk

    30 sec

The dropdown has two modes: single office or citywide. 'Berlinweit' shows every free slot across Berlin in one view. Use it.

  3. Time your refresh to Berlin's 4 release windows

    2–6 min

New slots drop continuously on weekdays, but peaks are 08:00, 10:00, 13:00, 15:00 for cancellation returns. Refresh every 30 seconds inside these windows.

  4. Grab any slot within 3 weeks

    Instant

Don't wait for the 'perfect' office or date — slots vanish in seconds. Book the first acceptable one and move on.

  5. Confirm by email

    Instant

You'll get a Bestätigung with the Termin code. Bring it printed or on phone.

What to bring

  • Passport+ visa if applicable
  • WohnungsgeberbestätigungLandlord-signed
  • Rental contractHelpful, not required
  • AnmeldeformularPDF pre-filled

The appointment itself

  1. Arrive 10 min early

    10 min

Check in with the Ticket-Automat — enter your booking code; it prints a number.

  2. Wait for your number

    ~20 min

Average 20 min. Bring earbuds or a book.

  3. Clerk stamps Anmeldebescheinigung

    10 min

10-minute conversation. They check docs, type the address, print the certificate.

  4. You walk out with the stamp

This is the one paper that unlocks everything else. Take a photo AND keep the original safe.
