English-speaking GPs, dentists, and gynaecologists in Munich
Where to find doctors who'll speak with you in English — plus urgent-care options and what to pack for a first visit.
Munich has one of Germany's largest expat populations, and most GPs in central districts will speak at least workable English. The hard part is finding them before you need them — ideally before your first cold or prescription refill.
Four places to start
1. International Friends of Munich — GP directory
A curated, frequently-updated list of English-speaking practitioners across Munich, grouped by specialty.
munich.international-friends.net2. Doctolib — filter by "Spoken Languages"
Doctolib.de lets you book online + filter doctors by spoken language. Select "English" in the sidebar after a search.
3. US Embassy Munich consular list
Updated yearly. Covers GPs, dentists, hospitals, and emergency care.
de.usembassy.gov4. TK Arztsuche (if you're with TK / other GKV)
The KV Bayerns directory (arztauskunft-bayern.de) lets you search by specialty + postcode.
Specific recommendations newcomers mention
- Avi Medical — English-speaking GP chain with an app. Multiple Munich clinics (Isartor, Maxvorstadt, Schwabing). Accepts GKV.
- Mobidoctor — €24 English-language online urgent-care consults, useful for after-hours or when you can't get a GP slot.
- Kinderarzt Dr. Busch-Petersen — pediatrics, Schwabing, English-speaking.
- Praxis am Stachus — central GP practice with English staff.
Pharmacy English
Chain pharmacies like Easy Apotheke or those inside train stations usually have at least one English-speaking pharmacist. In a pinch, Google Translate's camera mode is fast enough for medication labels.
Urgent / emergency
- 112 — European emergency number (ambulance, fire, severe emergencies).
- 116 117 — Kassenärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst — non-emergency medical help line, works in English on request.
- Klinikum München Rechts der Isar (affiliated with TUM) — major central hospital.
- Klinikum Großhadern — major LMU hospital (southwest).
Bring to a first appointment
- Passport + Anmeldebescheinigung.
- Krankenkassen card (physical card — most practices still prefer the chip insert).
- List of current medications in their German names where possible (generic names are usually recognisable).
