Berlin LEA abolished online booking in 2025 — here's the new contact-form workflow
If you've landed in Berlin and need the Ausländerbehörde, the old 'book a slot on service.berlin.de' workflow no longer exists. Here's what replaced it.
From paper queues to a 5-minute contact form
LEA abolished online slot-booking in January 2025. You now submit a Kontaktformular and a caseworker emails back. Every guide still telling you to refresh service.berlin.de at 08:00 is out of date.
to submit the new Berlin LEA Kontaktformular
5 min
Submit the form, upload documents, wait 1–3 weeks for a caseworker email. No more 08:00 Termin roulette. Third-party booking services are now invalidated.
The new workflow
Submit the Kontaktformular
5 minGo to berlin.de/einwanderung. Pick your case type (Aufenthaltserlaubnis, extension, Blue Card, §19c, family reunification, Niederlassungserlaubnis).
Upload supporting documents
Passport, Anmeldung, employment contract, passport photo. Missing docs = 3-week delay.
Wait for caseworker email
1–3 weeksLEA routes your case to the right desk. They email either a Termin slot OR — for simple extensions — an approval purely by email.
Receive Fiktionsbescheinigung automatically
AutomaticIf your current permit expires before LEA's reply, the submission itself triggers bridging status. No separate request needed.
Attend Termin OR receive decision
Blue Card first-issue usually needs an in-person biometric capture. Extensions often don't.

Why LEA changed the system
What LEA gained
- Third-party Termin-bot abuse eliminated (resellers charged €50–€200 per slot)
- Caseworkers route cases to the right desk up-front
- Fewer "wrong Termin type" walk-ins that waste slots
- Email trail makes escalation cleaner
What newcomers lost
- Loss of certainty — you don't know exactly when you'll be contacted
- Heavy reliance on email — check your spam folder weekly
- Family reunification cases stretched to 6 months in 2026
- No fast lane for emergency cases (e.g., expiring visa + sudden travel)
Practical tips
- Submit earlyDon't wait till 2 wks left
- Upload completeAll docs first try
- Use German addressPost-Anmeldung
- No paid servicesLEA invalidates bot slots

If you're stuck
6+ weeks of silence on a submitted form → resubmit with your ticket number in the subject line.
