Mietpreisbremse aftermath
The Mietendeckel was struck down in April 2021; rents have caught up since. Mietpreisbremse still applies for new leases above the Mietspiegel.Still: new leases can't exceed the Berliner Mietspiegel + 10%. If you see €28/m² in Friedrichshain, challenge it — cite the Mietspiegel at berlin.de/mietspiegel.

- Friedrichshain — tech + media folks; Boxhagener Platz.
- Kreuzberg — creative mix; Turkish + Arab heritage neighbourhoods.
- Wedding — cheapest central option; diverse; improving fast.

Schufa + first-lease paperwork
Every Berlin landlord wants a Schufa (credit history). Brand-new arrivals don't have one yet — substitute with:
- Bank statements showing 3× monthly rent in savings.
- Last 3 payslips (or job contract).
- Employer letter of guarantee.
