Getting an Anmeldung Termin in Germany
How the Termin system works, which cities we automate, and what to do for the rest.
Booking a Termin — an appointment at the Bürgeramt to register your address (Anmeldung) — is one of the first painful bureaucratic steps every newcomer to Germany faces. Slots are scarce, portals are clunky, and availability changes minute-to-minute. Here's how to navigate it.
The fast path
If you live in Berlin, Munich, or Frankfurt, head to our Termin notifier tool. It watches the official city portal and emails you the moment slots open. No scraping on your side, no constant refreshing.
For the other cities, use the manual tips below — the portals work, you just have to check them at the right times of day.
What we do and don't do
We notify you — we never book on your behalf. You open the email, click through, and book directly on the official city portal. Automated booking is how Berlin's LEA ended up shutting down its entire online appointment system in January 2025. We won't put you or us in that position.
Cities we automate (3)
| City | Portal | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Berlin (Bürgeramt) | service.berlin.de | Slots drop 08:00, 10:00, 13:00. We check every 3 minutes during working hours. |
| Munich (KVR) | stadt.muenchen.de | Same-day slots release ~30 minutes before daily opening. |
| Frankfurt (TEVIS) | tevis.ekom21.de/fra/ | Weekday drops 06:00 + Monday 08:00 for a 14-day window. |
We do NOT watch the Berlin LEA (Landesamt für Einwanderung). LEA decommissioned its online booking in January 2025 because of bot abuse. If you need a residence-permit extension, you'll be contacted by LEA directly after submitting their contact form.visaguard.berlin
Cities where you'll check manually (7)
See the manual instructions page for step-by-step tips for Hamburg, Köln, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf (use their native Terminagent), Leipzig, Nürnberg, and Bremen.
Tips for everyone
- Book under someone else's name first? No. The appointment has to match your passport name. Forget the "book under a friend's name and change later" trick — the Bürgeramt will turn you away.
- Weekday mornings are best. 08:00–10:00 sees the most new slots appear in most cities.
- Check cancellations. People cancel at the last minute. The hour before a popular slot is a surprisingly good time to look.
- Bring everything. Passport, rental contract, Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord confirmation), filled Anmeldung form. Missing one means another 2-week wait.
